Women and Drug and Alcohol Use

Less women than men are accessing drug and alcohol services. Does this mean that fewer women are using drugs or alcohol and have fewer problems or do stigma and prejudices stop them seeking help and admitting they have a problem?

This training day is designed to look at the social implications of female drug and/or alcohol use. It also identifies the reasons why women drink or use drugs at problematic levels and the kind of drugs they are using (illicit or licit). We consider issues that stop these women accessing services. We will develop ideas on what support female problem drinkers and drug users need, and how services need to be designed to attract these women.
