Young people and drugs and alcohol

Most surveys on the extent of drug use, and current trends among young people, suggest that drug use is either on the increase or at least constant. As drug use amongst adolescents is hidden and few young people come forward to seek help for their drug problem, it is difficult to estimate the real extent of a local drug problem.

This training day aims to give an overview on trends of adolescent drug use and their drug of choice. It will also identify those population groups which are particular vulnerable to problematic drug and/or alcohol use, and will look at the reasons for their drug taking. We will also explore what stops these young people from getting help.

The session will also develop ideas upon how best to respond to young people’s drug and/or alcohol use and how drug services for young people need to look like to attract young drug and alcohol using people.
